Anyone who knows me knows how much I hate remakes. There is nothing that bothers me more. Creed is a spin off that feels like a remake of Rocky and I loved it! Every second of it. Well some slight problems with it but not many. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole film. To be fair my intense love for this film might have to do with the fact that this film played on nostalgia like nobodies business and I ate it up like a kid in the candy store. I won't give away anything from the movie because to do so would rob you of the heart of it. Rocky, while being boxing films have always been movies about a man trying to make his way in this world. They are movies about a man who won't stay down and Creed is no different. I can't lie a few scenes brought tears to my eyes. You can't watch this movie and not see how much Ryan Coogler and Aaron Covington love the old films. It pays tribute to all of the old movies, well only the slightest of references to 5 but other than that it showed a great deal of love for all of them.
Any fan of Rocky needs to go see this film. It is a heartfelt film that pays nothing but love to the series that spawned it.

The gang returns to talk about a movie that won't be released for 100 years.
So I signed up for Movie Pass and am loving it. I can't believe how great it is to just get up and go to a movie and not worry about paying for it. It's a nice world. I've already seen The Peanuts Movie, Spectre and Our Brand is Crisis. All great films using it.
Today I went and saw my fourth film with the pass and this is the one I want to talk about today. Burnt . It is such a great film. I don't know what I was expecting walking in, to be honest not a whole lot. I've never been much of a cooking person. I always hated those shows about cooking that my mom used to make me watch but I guess after seeing Chef I've been dying to see something in the same vain. Jon Favreau made one amazing movie that gave me a new appreciation for the art of cooking. I mean don't get me wrong I've always loved eating but cooking I always found boring until that film. Throughout this movie I found myself comparing the two films over and over again and that isn't fair. They are very different in a lot of ways. Bradley Cooper played a bitter man who is trying to get his life back on track after letting it spirit out of control. We follow him on this journey and it is one hell of a ride. He pulls us in all the while keeping everyone else out. Life is hard and sometimes we work so hard on what we want in this world that we lose track of everything else. We become so consumed with it that it becomes our whole world. Once we get it we don't know what to do with ourselves. We work so hard getting to the finish line that we feel lost and hollow once we arrive. Everything falls apart and we end up losing all that we worked for. I think that is a large part why people sabotage themselves. This film is all about how to pick up the pieces afterwards. In short it's a redemption story and a damn good one. One that I think everyone should run out and go see. The gang returns to talk about video games.
After what felt like a life time we finally got the 4th installment in the Evil Dead franchise (if you leave out the remake that wasn't that bad if you don't think about the immortal nerd) and it was amazing! Ash is back and better than ever! Instead of another movie like we all wanted we got a brand new TV show by the name of Ash vs the Evil Dead. A great name by the way. It has all the camp and horror of the movies but with a new weekly formula and the fact that Stars has been nice enough to order a second season already means we get at least two years of this wonderful thing.
The story starts off with Ash going to a local bar to get some action and his new "friend" turns into a deadite. From there we see the new world slowly unfold and it isn't much different than we last left it. Ash has let himself go, still working in retail and now living in a mobile home trying to hide from the world and the undead until they come for him. When he pops the shotgun out and when the chainsaw connects to his arm you are hooked into in. Ash Williams has returned and the evil dead is back. I can't wait for the next episode! |
