It seems that Fox aired the last two episodes in the right order, so that is good. This episode written by Tracy Tormé himself, starts off with Quinn in jail and his lawyer telling him that he needs to take the insanity pled, if he tells the judge about Sliding they would let him go. He tells her he isn't crazy.
In court the next day we find out that the crime is spray painting an over pass and the sentence is death. Damn this world believes in overkill! They open the vortex, beat up the cops and take Quinn through the vortex. He is still wearing the handcuffs. They have 3 days on this Earth and everyone here seems happy. Laughing a lot, all while looking at Remy. Someone asks him if he is here for the crying man convention. Arturo points out it means that they aren't home but Remy says this world is better. That people here are smarter and more enlightened here. They get swarmed by fans so they sneak into the hotel that always has the same guy running it. He is a huge fan of Remy. Quinn starts picking the locks of his cuffs with help from Wade. It turns out on this world Remy died 8 years ago. The news showed footage of our Remy walking and now everyone thinks that Remy has returned from the dead. The news comes to talk to his old manager for the convention. It turns out that our Remy turned this manger down on our world and he is the one who turned this Remy into Elvis more or less. The manger finds out that our Remy is here and thinks that he is the real one. He wants to find him and restart his career as well. Remy's fans tear him apart and Arturo as well when he goes to save him. The police get the manager inside. He tells Remy that he set up a concert that will pay a million dollars a song. Quinn points out that they slide at 9 and that would be in the middle of the show. It is too much of a risk but Remy says he is doing it. Wade points out that even a few songs would fix all their money problems. As the Sliders sneak out the back a fan knocks Remy out and kidnaps him. The Remy from this world learns about the concert on TV while the manger talks the Sliders out of calling the cops. Quinn calls anyways. Remy learns that his kidnapper is one of the spinning tops. The name of his group. He tells Remy to sign a letter saying that he stole all his ideas from him and Remy just starts laughing. This guy is crazy. The double walks in, he is a thinner version of Remy. He said he faked his death to get out of the business. The actor who plays him is the twin brother of the man who plays Remy. He tells the Sliders that he had the kidnapper locked up since he is crazy and if he has their Remy he will kill him. The sliders also tell this worlds Remy that they are Sliders and from another world. He has a hard time believing it, after all who wouldn't? The concert is going badly, the manager just keeps putting fake Remy's on stage. Meanwhile the Sliders and this world's Remy find him and save our Remy. The two Remy's meet and are weirded out about it all. Our Remy is jealous that this Remy got everything he ever wanted and walked away from it. This Remy talks about how it all just became too much of a good thing. This Remy tells our Remy that he can have his life, our Remy jumps at it and this world Remy tells him to be careful for what he wishes for. Remy tells the Sliders that he is staying here. They aren't happy about it but there is nothing they can do. Remy says goodbye to the Sliders and tell Quinn that he is sorry for all the times he blamed Quin for everything. This worlds Remy comes to watch the show. Wade lets it slip that the concert is a million dollars a song and he freaks out. The Sliders take off to find a place to slide away when this worlds Remy comes out on stage. Lucky Quinn spots him. Our Remy is at a loss. Now both Remys fight it out on who is the real one with a sing off. This world's Remy sells ours out as an imposter and sends him away. There goes Remy's dreams. It is all over for him, at least on this world. The poor guy. Remy hopes on the next world he will be even bigger. Well he is still the king, just one of many who sells ice cream. Poor guy.

One of my favorite episodes from season one, Eggheads written by Jacob Epstein & Scott Smith Miller. The sliders end up stuck on this world for 5 days. There are scientists on all the posters and Quinn is on a giant billboard. People rush him and start asking for his autographs. It seems that on this world intelligence is prized and scientists are this worlds version of athletes.
Remy gets them a cab to escape from the crowd who all but climb on top of the cab. The Quinn and Arturo of this world are known as the Sliders, it seems they slide off this world a while ago. Quinn thinks that if he can use his doubles equipment than he can get them home. They rush to his doubles house. The house is for sale but the asking price is so high no one has bought it yet so the Sliders make themselves at home. Down in the basement there is no Sliding machine. It is starting to look like maybe he didn't slide. Quinn and Arturo decide to take over the lives of their doubles. On this world Arturo is the chairman of the university and just as famous as Quinn. Quinn is called down to practice for what seems to be athletic and intellectual at the same time. Quinn is the captain of the team and his men don't much care for his return. It turns out that the guy who was feeling in for him is working with someone who threatened Quinn to leave. It seems on this world Quinn is the best at this game. Arturo has a pretty young woman in his office, he is excited until he is served divorce papers. I get why they are taking over their doubles lives to try and make their way home but it seems to me that they are ruining their doubles lives and they don't seem to care or even give it any thought. Quinn is not doing so well in the game while Arturo figures out the woman divorcing him is his late wife. The poor guy. About half way through the game Quinn finally starts to get the hang of it. Quinn makes it and takes the square he needed to win the game. What the hell did I just watch? Remy lost all of their money betting against Quinn. They make it home and it seems the mafia is there waiting for Quinn. He is in trouble. He tells Quinn that if he throws the next match he will make the million dollars go away. Arturo goes to visit his late wife, or really his doubles soon to be ex-wife. He believes that his double is in Europe and Quinn's is on the run. That there is in fact no sliding device on this world. Quinn tries to quit the team but his teammate won't pass on his message, he makes Quinn tell the coach himself. The coach is not happy that Quinn is costing him everything. Quinn leaves but no sooner does he make it to the end of the field than he meets two FBI agents. He makes a deal with the agents to set up the mafia and still win the game for the coach. Arturo meets with his ex-wife. Quinn takes the field once more. He is kicking ass in the game. While he is playing, Arturo is recording a message for this worlds Arturo trying to convince him to fix things with his wife. He gives the tape to his secretary and tells her to give the tape to him the second he gets back. The mafia shows up and Quinn tells the coach to take him out, Quinn tells the coach about the player working for the mob. Things are getting tense in these last few minutes. The mob chase Quinn out of the arena and it is seen all over TV. They have 2 minutes till the slide and they rush up stairs trying to avoid being caught by the mob. They make it with just 30 second to spare but the Mafia get there with their guns drawn just in time. Things don't look good for our heroes till the FBI shows up. They sliders open the vortex and slide out, thus ending another great episode of this 90's gem. Some more jumping around in the viewing order thanks to our friends over at Fox. Episode 8 which should have been episode 6 written by Dawn Prestwich & Nicole Yorkin starts off with our heroes landing in what looks to be a jungle. They have about 6 and a half weeks until the next slide. Remy wastes no time in once more blaming Quinn for everything.
The sliders think they might be home, Arturo says that the food sold at the stand is the best in the world. They fight over how to split it. Arturo says that it could be home. Clinton is president, only it isn't Bill, it is Hillary. Hey maybe they didn't go to another world, maybe they just went to the future? No it's another world and hopefully she doesn't become our next president. They find out very soon that this world treats men the way that our world treats women. The four of them have no money and they have to quickly find jobs if they want to get a place to stay. Remy starts singing asking for change. Quinn tries to work but he can only get work as a nanny. Men have no rights on this world. Remy wears out his voice, but he sang enough to get them a room. They just don't have the money for real food. Wade on the other hand gets a job. She is working for the mayor. Who gave her a cash advance. They have money! The mayor needs people to help with the campaign and Wade gets the guys jobs. The Sliders are going to be having money soon! Arturo quickly gets into it with a woman on the elevator. She quickly puts him in his place. This is not the world for him, it is made even worse by the fact that the woman he hit on and got shot down by is the mayor. His new boss. Arturo is not fitting into this world at all. He is a bit of sexist himself and being on the other side of it doesn't sit well with him. A random guy talks to Arturo about his views and tells him that he has a offer that he might like. Quinn is in his interview and is quickly put down and treated like a sex object by the lady who is interviewing him. He doesn't feel comfortable in it but there isn't much he can do about it. Arturo didn't do as well and was turned away. The reporter from earlier asks Arturo for a few minutes of his time. He takes Arturo to a bar and they tell him that they agree with his views. They want him to run for mayor. He is in shock and doesn't have anything to say. He agreed and Wade tries to talk him out of it. Throwing his own words at him. He wants to help men get equal rights on this world. They slide on the same day the election is set to end so it works out perfectly. Wade and Quinn are dating, I don't remember that and I've seen this show a million times. I always remember them as flirting and skating around a relationship but never going all the way for it. A girl pulls up and picks Remy off the street telling him she can help him get signed. He goes with her to lunch to talk all about it. Arturo jumps right into his campaigning. It is not going well for him. He makes the news but as a joke. Wade keeps pointing out that men are bad and women are good. Wade and Arturo are the same on this issue but from the opposite sides. Wade tries to drag Quinn into the fight but he is smart enough to stay silent. Meanwhile Remy goes home with the lady who picked him. She is such a guy, right down to the horrible pick up lines. He asks about the record producers and she says all in good time and starts kissing on him. Telling him if he wants her help she has to help him. Arturos campaign starts gaining steam. Not a lot but a great deal more than anyone ever thought. He even gets a debate like he was asking for. He is doing good and his office is attacked. People are not happy with what he is doing. He gets a call with a bomb threat. Remy got laid is beyond happy about it. Quinn calls him, how did he get the ladies phone number? Unless Remy has been staying there a few days. Quinn is getting just as tired of this world as Arturo. He isn't liking how he is being treated either. The mayor calls Quinn into her office where she shows him a slam ad against Arturo. Quinn asks to talk to Wade, she tells Quinn that she had nothing to do with this. He is pissed at her for siding with the mayor over Arturo. Quinn quits and problems between the two are building. Quinn goes to see Arturo and tries to talk him out of continuing the election. Arturo says he has to, he is even going to stay on this world if he wins. Remy meets his new girls ex boyfriend who shows up uninvited and tries to chase Remy out. They get into it. Remy finds out that she isn't even a record producer. Someone shoots at Arturo. Things are getting worse and worse. Wade's sexism is getting more and more annoying. Remy is getting more and more hurt by this girl. She takes him for granted and he is starting to bitch and whine about it. She kicks him out. Arturo tries to throw the election. He thinks that if he withdraws it would throw men back many decades but if he loses it wouldn't hurt the cause. He plans to cry during the debate, turning the crowd against him. He storms off stage crying. The people who have been pushing him to become mayor come up and tell him that while he pushed some of his supports away he gained even more. It helped him instead of hurting him. He now has a good shot at winning. Arturo still hasn't decided on if he was going to stay or not. Wade and Arturo make a bet, if he loses than he is Wade's slave on the next slide. He is announced the loser and gives a speech telling his people to fight on. Arturo agrees to slide away. The sliders jump through the vortex, moments later it comes out that the numbers were wrong, Arturo won. He was elected mayor! He will just never know! The Sliders are on a paradise world and Arturo is stuck serving Wade hand and foot. Sucks for him, the slide lasts just over 9 days. In this episode written by Dan Lane we see the sliders slide into a world that seems to be going to hell. Cars are crashes on the sides of the streets, couples are making out like crazy in pubic, food is over priced. The sliders soon learn that they slide into a world that only has two days left before an asteroid hits the Earth. Not a problem for people who can jump from Earth to Earth right? Well here is the catch. . . they slide in 3 days time. One day after the Earth dies.
Remy goes right back to his favorite pastime, blaming Quinn for everything that goes wrong in their lives. He storms out, saying he will be back just before the asteroid hits. Wade says that she wants to go see her family, even if it isn't really her family it would help her deal. Quinn goes with her leaving Arturo alone. Arturo goes to see what the big brains have to say and he spots the hippie from Earth Prime who says that Albert Einstein got something wrong when he built his nuke and that is why it didn't work. Arturo hears that the reason it didn't work was that there wasn't enough material on Earth to make the bomb go off and Arturo knew that that wasn't true. He teams up with this kid to try and fix the bomb, as luck would have it the kid has the bomb. The government didn't care if someone took it because it didn't work. Wade's family isn't on this Earth so she goes with Quinn to his house. His family is gone but it is his house. In the basement he finds the sliding machine. The Quinn of this Earth thought it was a time machine but Quinn thinks he can get it up and running again. Wade wants to talk about their feeling but Quinn asks for a half hour to get some work done first. He almost gets it working but it overheats the circuits and knocks out the power. Ruining their last hope. Quinn breaks down. Remy goes to church to try and find some peace there but he just can't seem to come to grips with the world ending. With his own death. He goes from the church to a nearby party where a married woman starts hitting on him and her husband seems to be ok with it. Even wishes them fun. Arturo is trying to get work done on the fatman while the hippie keeps blasting music and talking about everything he is going to do with nuclear power after they save the Earth. Arturo doesn't like what he hears but he accepts it until the hippie says that no one in the world will ever mess with them again. After all the USA would have nukes. When the kid goes to the restroom Arturo takes one piece of the blueprints so that the hippie won't be able to figure it out once Arturo is gone. Remy stumbles into a game of Russian roulette hosted by the husband. He saves the wife who was hitting on him from the room. Quinn tries to be hopeful that they can escape alive but Wade keeps him to reality. The two of them almost kiss but Wade pulls away at the last minute. The two of them have a romantic dinner and talk about everything that has happened. They even dance. They finally kiss!!!! So Arturo picks this moment to come into the house and asks for their help. He tells them he recreated the bomb. It turns out that Einstein messed the bomb up himself. Quinn and Wade go with Arturo to help set up the bomb. The asteroid is so close they can see it. Remy never came back to meet with them. He is helping out at the church. Feeding the needy with the wife he saved. He seems to have found his peace. He takes off to go catch up with the other sliders. He catches up with them just before the bomb sends off. He even makes amends with Quinn. The nuke destroys the asteroid saving the day and the Earth. The sliders now have the extra day they need to slide off of this world. The blueprint that Arturo stole falls out of his pocket and the hippie picks it up. This world is now stuck in the hippies hands. Arturo saved the world today only to doom it tomorrow. Early in the episode a cop tries to give a guy a ticket and he tears it up. Since the world is ending she can't really do anything and just takes off giving him a victory. Once the world is saved she comes back to give him the ticket again. It is little details like that that just make me love this show more and more every episode. Right before the Sliders slide off Arturo learns that he lost the blueprint but it is too late, the vortex is open and he has to go. Another great episode in the Sliders verse! The second episode to air was written by Ann Powell & Rose Schacht and show have taken place 4th. But again, blame Fox!
The sliders land in a world where oil is coming from everywhere. Everyone is rich. People are just handing out money and in Arturo's case, kisses. The Sliders are having the time of their lives. Turns out that Quinn's double just hit a ton of oil. His family are now millionaires. And so of course it is time to slide out of there. Easy come, easy go. On the new world Wade shoots out of the vortex and into the street where she is almost hit by a truck. A man saves her and she gives him a kiss. He asks how she could do that after he tried to save her. We quickly learn they are stuck here for 2 days and we see that the place has people dying left and right. They go for food and have to pass through scanners that make sure they are healthy. One guy is coughing and everyone is watching him like he slapped their mother. They are stuck with food that makes airport food look good. The waitress seems to know Quinn. Remy throws up the food, it must be bad and sees a wanted poster for Quinn. They need to get out of there fast. He is patient zero. They try to leave just as people show up for the guy coughing. He tries to escape but they don't let him. The waitress recognizes Quinn and yells for them to get him. The sliders make it away. For now. Wade starts to get sick. It seems this world doesn't have any meds. At least not what we would call. It seems that penicillin was never invented here. We also meet the hotel clerk that we meet on a great many worlds. Remy tells him that Wade just has a hangover. A fan of the Quinn from this world calls in the cops and they take Quinn. Arturo makes it back to Remy and tells him about the Quinn of this world who made a plague to take out the world. It seems that Arturo is also coming down with the Q. It might be Remy sliding out alone, foreshadowing like nothing else. Two scientists keep running tests on Quinn and find that the Q virus isn't in him at all. It seems that this world's Quinn escaped on the female scientists watch. She hurries to go and examine her himself. Wade is getting worse and worse as Arturo starts to catch up. Wade takes off and Remy and Arturo track her down. She doesn't seem to recognize them. Other people with the Q show up and she seems to know them. This virus is weird. The sliders go with them. The sliders meet this world's Quinn. Arturo tells the infected Quinn who seems to believe them. It seems that Quinn wasn't the one who invented the Q, he was given it and sent into the world. They did it to control people. Arturo starts looking for mold to create some penicillin. He tells Remy that while he works on this he needs to find a way to save their Quinn. This world's Quinn helps Remy get into the CDC to save Quinn. He tells him that the female scientist is his friend and will help him. Right after that scene we see her helping our Quinn get out of there. The cab driver from the other worlds is back and once again helping Remy get around. He gets there just as Quinn is escaping and the female scientist is shot. She dies in his arms and he runs towards Remy and they head back to camp. Why would the camp driver wait for them when people are shooting? I would have sped away. This world's Quinn is amazed at what Arturo is doing. He would never have thought of that. Wade is getting worse and worse. She is seeing things and if Arturo doesn't hurry than all hope is lost. Our Quinn shows up and the two meet face to face before he goes to comfort Wade. Remy tells this world's Quinn that his friend didn't make it. He is heart broken. Arturo finished his penicillin. He tells them how to get it into people to help them. He tests it on himself first, this world's Quinn is mad that he tries it on himself first. He points out that he is trying it out on himself in case it goes wrong. Remy now has the Q as well. If the cure doesn't work they miss the slide. The CDC closes in on their location. Everything is coming down to the wire. Arturo wakes up and proves that it works. They start giving it to people as the CDC comes in. The sliders run, helped by this world's Quinn. The people jump to this world's Quinn's help and he tells the CDC that everyone knows how to make it now. The Q is over once and for all. The Sliders slide, leaving this world behind and hoping for the best. The Sliders are in danger as cannibals move in on them. That's how the episode ends. I love it! In this episode written by Lee Goldberg and William Rabkin we see another example of just how little Fox cares about their shows or the art of television. Now this was aired as episode 5 of the series and yet it starts off with the sliders on the top of a roof in a world over run with water while wearing hippie clothes. The ending of episode 6, you know the one that airs the week after this one, ends with them on a world that is about to be drowned out while wearing hippie clothes. This is clearly taking place right after that one so why air it first? It makes no sense. But Fox does that a lot so it's to be expected.
They arrive on a new world where we quickly learn that the Americans never won their freedom and it is still a colony of the British. We also see very quickly that Arturo is something special on this world. Everyone keeps bowing to him. In fact when Wade is almost run over the man starts yelling at her until he sees Arturo and he backs down and gives them a free hotel room. Once in the room we find out that Arturo is the Sheriff on this world and that since the King is lost at war he is second in line for the throne. The gang decides that they need to get out of the city fast so that no finds out that Arturo isn't the real sheriff. It isn't long before the car they get breaks down on the back roads and everyone but for Arturo is pushing it along. It seems on this world after America failed their revolution everyone else did too. A few Kingdoms own pretty much everything. It isn't long before they are stopped by the military and it seems the sheriff has ordered the Prince killed and for it to look like an accident. The Sliders get involved and save the Prince. Not long after they are captured by the Oakland Raiders who are what is left of the resistance movement. Quinn hands over the Prince and Arturo so that he and the others can get in good with this group and they can all stay together till the slide that is 5 days away. He even works hard to keep them alive because the raiders just want them dead. \ The Arturo of this world is an evil man who has anyone who questions him arrested and maybe even put to death. He finds out that raiders have the Prince and someone pretending to be him as hostages and he is not happy. He wants them all dead. The resistance responds by wanting to kill the Prince and Arturo but Quinn just starts saying famous lines and somehow these people fall for it. He starts leading attacks on people to steal from the rich and give to the poor like some kind of Robin Hood. The raiders are now known as Quinn and the raiders and the Sheriff is making it out as if they are the ones who are going to kill the Prince. Our Arturo is now walking free among the resistance. Quinn has enough pull in the movement to have the Prince at least untied. The Prince asks Wade out on a date but she is leaving. She lets him down gently. He asks if she is in love with Quinn, getting right to the heart of the matter. She gets into it with Quinn about everything. The Prince escapes and Wade is in trouble for leaving him untied. With one day left before the Slide Quinn goes looking for him. The Prince sees how little his people have, changing his views on everything. He sees Quinn gets arrested and he goes back to the resistance. Arturo comes up with an idea to save Quinn without starting a war. The raiders take over the sheriff's station, they put the Prince on the air, he is to pardon Quinn expose he sheriff and give people Democracy. Arturo gives the Prince the bill of rights and Remy tries to cut out the 2nd amendment, which is an important one, one that people don't seem to understand anymore. It isn't about protecting your home from common crimiles it is to protect yourself from the government something that this world needs more than anything else. Arturo forces it to stay. The sheriff is about to have Quinn killed when the Prince cuts into his video feed and has the sheriff arrested and Quinn set free. Quinn rushes out of the building he only has minutes left to get out before the slide is set to go. He makes it just in time for them to open the vortex and get out of there. The sliders are gone from this world but they will never forget them. They changed this world forever. The Prince asks Wade to be his queen she kisses him and then follows Quinn into the vortex. I guess that's a no. Such a great episode! Now I know you are wondering why I jumped to episode 6 and skipped 3-5, well Fox aired the show out of order, like it does with so many shows. So I thought I'd go through them the way they were meant to be seen instead of the way they were shown. So that would make the next episode Summer of Love by Tracy Tormé! The creator himself.
The episode starts with the damn hippie from the last episode getting arrested by the FBI. He is taken to Quinn's basement and shown pictures of everyone who vanished. The FBI is looking into where they could have gone. They have even figured that the Crying man is gone as well. They think that the hippie knows what happened to them. He tells them that the bridge that Quinn is talking about leads to another Earth. The four sliders exit the wormhole on an Earth that seems to have no people on it. The timer is sparking. Things are not going well for our heroes. A swarm is entering the town and the four friends have 10 minutes to escape. Remy starts freaking out demanding to go home or at least get out of there. Quinn says the timer is on its last legs, if it doesn't cool off it could break, he opens it anyways. Wade and Remy jump through and the vortex closes, the bugs close in and the vortex reopens so that Arturo and Quinn can enter, a few bugs catch a ride. Remy and Wade are dumped out in the middle of a hippie camp as the vortex closes. No sign of Quinn or Arturo or the damn bugs that all get dumped out elsewhere. Is it the same world? Who knows. How fast do those bugs reproduce? Who knows but it could be the end for this world thanks to these two. One of the bugs is on Arturo's back about to bite him. He asks Quinn for help, he picks up a rock and tells Arturo that he use to be a quarterback. He throws the rock, hitting the bug and knocking Arturo out. He must not have been a good one. Wade and Remy think that they are stuck on this strange new world forever. The hippies introduce themselves to them, they think that they are gods. Remy thinks they might be home until he asks who is president. Quinn uses a bandana to help Arturo's wound heal. This world seems to be stuck in the 60's. It could be the same world that the others are on, it seems to fit together nicely. Remy loves all the attention that he is getting and thinks that it is all because he is the crying man. Remy's go rivals my own. You have to love it. He goes into town to look for their friends and the hippies tell them that they will do anything he ever asks of them. The hippies are rich and worship Remy. He drives right past Quinn and Arturo and didn't even see them. He visits his old house and some kids are scared to see him. There is a party going on and he crashes it just to see what is going on. Turns out it is his doubles funeral. It gets worse, there is no body, he is just MIA and believed dead. Remy stays and listens to them talk about him, he is going to get himself in so much trouble. His brother, or his doubles brother starts talking about how he is better than Remy. Even a better singer and Remy steps out and talks shit. Making everyone there think that their Remy is alive. Now if his Remy never became a professional singer, doesn't it click in his head that the hippies aren't loving him because of the crying man? His doubles wife is the one who got away on his world. Quinn and Quinn meet the hippie from their world, he is a clean cut republican on this world. Far different from his counter part on Earth Prime. Earth Prime is what the sliders will call their Earth soon. Remy is good with staying now. He has everything he ever wanted. It's as if his life is perfect. Remy finds out that he had to bug his wife for 10 years before she even goes out with him. She isn't who he thought she was. Wade is loving being in charge of the hippies. She is worried about Remy but not enough to go looking for them. Arturo and Quinn figure out that the timer is broken and have to rework everything. The two men rent a loft from a crazy old lady who thinks that they are hippies and reports them to the government. She says that they are planning to kill the president. What the hell? Crazy old lady! Arturo is hard at work on the equation while Quinn is sleeping. They switch roles, Arturo goes to sleep and Quinn has to get to work. After the first night of crazy loving Remy is worn out. His son is rude as hell to him. This life is not what he was asking for. His double is the most whipped man alive from what his doubles son says. She starts nagging as soon as she gets up. His day of fun is ruined. The hippies ask her what happens when you die and she tells them she never died and now they think she is immortal. These people are crazy. Wade plays along, not sure what else she can do. Remy is hating his new life when his doubles son brings in a note saying that his double has been found alive. His double's wife goes to get her shotgun and chases Remy out of the house, firing the gun at him. Quinn makes it back to the loft and brings food for Arturo and tells him what the war is about. All the food he brings is junk food. He has to be a collage student, I would have done the same. He also gets Arturo hippie clothes. Arturo stayed awake all night working on the equation and was having a great deal of trouble. Quinn figured it out in no time. He is just about to explain it to Arturo when the feds show up and arrest them. They hear Remy singing outside. Arturo gets an FBI agents gun so that Quinn can run after Remy. He catches up to him. They now know that they are on the same Earth. Arturo runs after them with the FBI close on his tail. They take off in a hurry and Arturo tosses the gun. Wade is so excited to see Quinn but that happiness comes crashing down when she gets into it with Arturo about if they should get involved in the worlds they visit. They open the vortex, the argument not finished and hop through the vortex as the FBI shows up. They end up on another world that seems empty and the timer now counts down. Once more the city is empty and a tidal wave is coming right for them. They have 48 minutes till the slide and the wave is a hell of a lot closer than that. Another great episode of a great show! Welcome to my favorite show! Now I know a lot of people are going to point out I say the same thing about Buffy and Firefly and that is fair, I do. But I came to Firefly through Buffy and long before I feel in love with the Slayer and her journey I fell for Sliders. It was the show that captured my imagination as a kid and never let it go. This show means everything to me. I use to track every episode that I had seen, that's how much I loved this show. Also how nerdy I was and still am.
The first episode that sets up everything is written by Tracy Torme with a story by both Torme and Robert K. Weiss. The episode starts with Quinn freaking out about his anti gravity device, well not working. It did something completely different than what it was supposed to. The opening credits for the episode is a master class on character development. With just a slow pan/tilt from the roof to where Quinn is sleeping in his bed we learn everything we need to about the man. Everything that he loves and helps to make him who he is. This scene is the very definition of show don't tell. We meet his mother who nags him about working too hard and learn all about how his father was hit by a car. It fills us in on everything we need to know without feeling like we are learning anything. He watches tapes showing him discovering the wormholes. It's cut short by him having to run to class. We meet a crazy homeless man ranting about communist taking over the world and the USA falling, as he believes it should. Quinn is in Professor Arturo's class. Quinn plays dumb but knows all the answers. Arturo seems to really hate his students, he feels like they don't try and aren't smart enough to understand what he is teaching them. Quinn makes it t work where we meet Wade Welles who clearly has the hots for Quinn. We see once more that Quinn is smarter than most the people that he is around. He gets home and we see that he has a creaky gate, this is very important because it is how he always tries to find out if he is home or not. He has already created the timing device and has started using it to send other things into the vortex and having them return. He wants to know what is on the other side, the only option he has is to go through the gate himself. He films a goodbye to his mother incase he doesn't make it home. He then jumps through the vortex, changing his life and mine forever. He ends up back in his basement and thinks that it didn't work. If only he knew how well it works. It's simple at first, he drives past a green light not knowing that on this world green means stop and red means go. It is a very small difference but still a difference. We also hear that JFK is stepping down from the office of President, Americans are sneaking into Mexico for better jobs and Elvis is still alive. The last clue? His gate doesn't make a sound as he opens it. Oh and his mother is married to the gardener. The vortex opens and pulls him in, returning him back to his house. He figures out what had happened and runs to hug his mom. He is so happy to be home. He rushes to class to tell Arturo what he has discovered but Arturo hates him, telling him ever to talk about him that way again. What did Quinn miss? The hippie in the class, we see him on many worlds and he is always a dumbass, well a smart dumbass but still. Quinn also got fired from his job. He had a double come to this world and messed everything up for him. His double kissed Wade and Quinn says that she is like his sister, why would he kiss her. Thus breaking her heart, poor guy. He freaks out and Wade tries to comfort him. He goes home and finds the on his board finished. He asks himself who finished it and meets his double. He thinks that he was split in half like James T. Kirk but his double explains to him about sliding and the parallel worlds. This double will trouble him again. The double tries to warn him about something before vanishing into the vortex but our Quinn can't hear him. Arturo and Wade show up at Quinn's house, Arturo is under the impression that Quinn wants to apologize. At the same time Rembrandt "the Crying man" Brown is getting ready to make his big return to the spotlight. Arturo is beyond impressed by Quinn's discovery. I almost forgot how much Arturo detested Quinn in the early episodes, he doesn't believe that Quinn could have built the timer or that it could work. So Quinn shows him. He opens the vortex for him and both Arturo and Wade are in shock. Arturo doesn't want to go but Wade talks him into it. Quinn increases the power, the very thing that his double had tried to warn him about. Rembrandt and his beautiful car gets sucked into the vortex with everyone else. He ends up separated from the others and with no idea what has happened. It seems that this world is froze over with no life on it other than the four of them. They run into Remy and hide out in his car as things get worse weather wise. Remy demands he forces the timer to reopen early but Quinn says it is a bad idea, the weather gets worse forcing his hand. He ends up opening the vortex and they all go through it. Quinn helps everyone through but falls backward into the car as the vortex starts to close. The others worry that he didn't make it and Wade wants to go back but Arturo talks her out of it. They wouldn't be able to control it. At the last moment before it closes he falls out of the vortex. They all made it. They believe they made it home and Remy takes off trying to make it to the baseball game so that he can restart his career. He gets picked up by he cab driver, the same one that is on a great deal of universes. Wade takes off to check in with home. Quinn and Arturo talk about why the timer sent them to the wrong place. It is a few seconds later that Arturo finds that the wrong statue is in the park. They aren't home. Remy pays the cab driver in American money and gets himself in trouble. After all the country is owned by Russia and American's are the evil underground. Remy is placed under arrest. Poor Remy has no idea what is going on. Wade catches up with Quinn and Arturo and the three of them make their way through the city, seeing how messed up everything is. They are stuck there till the timer recharges itself. None of them seem all that worried about where Remy is or what happened to him. He is being interrogated. His double was killed 12 years ago so they think that he is an American spy. He is sent to the people's court. Things are not looking good for him. Quinn and co see how messed up the city is in this world and they finally decide to go find Remy. Arturo goes for a hotdog and uses American money, how did he not know that it would be different here? The phone company comes looking for Wade, lucky the hotdog vender helps them hide. It seems that on this world Wade is someone important who was just captured a few days ago. The three of them meet the underground resistance. Wade has a boyfriend there, she doesn't know him but oh he knows her. Arturo's double is one of the bad guys on this world. The resistance didn't believe them at first but Wade's lover knows she isn't the real Wade and it makes him believe them. They find Remy on a judge show. He tries to explain to the judge what happened but no one believes him. He gets sent to Alaska for 15 years. The resistance's Wade is in the same holding camp as Remy so they can save them at the same time. If the resistance doesn't succeed in this mission than it all over and what is left of America dies. Arturo gets them into the camp. Wade goes off to find her double while Quinn and Arturo free Remy. The alarm goes off and they have to take off before reconnecting with Wade. Everything goes to shit. The resistance escapes but Wade is dead. Quinn freaks out, after all she is his best friend. Everyone is in shock, lucky for us it wasn't our Wade, it was her double. Our Wade is safe and sound. Remy gets to sing the anthem like he has been trying to the whole episode, but instead of doing it to fix his career he is doing to send off the dead. Not the way he wanted but hey, it's something. Arturo and Quinn fix the timer and if they return to the spot they slide in on they could increase their chance to get home. Someone tries to stop them and Wade knocks him down and they set off running. The cops close behind, the timer won't work. They are doomed. . . . at the last second he gets it working and they waste no time going through the vortex. Once again they think they are home, even find the homeless man from the start of the episode sleeping. Quinn uses his gate to test if they are home or not, it squeaks. They go inside, all seems well. His mother is even worried about him as if he had been gone for a long time. Arturo tells Quinn they should destroy the timer, it is too dangerous for them to keep it. It could fall into the wrong hands. The four friends are so happy, it's the perfect ending, until Quinn's father walks into the house. There goes the perfect ending. This episode is so perfectly crafted it's just a masterpiece. If it was a movie it would go down as a classic like Back to the Future. Sliders should get more love! |
